Hi Tony
I actualy had one of these about 16 years or so ago. It grew to over two feet in lengh. It took weeks before it actualy ate anything which was a real worry as I expected it to be dead every time I switched the tank lights on in a morning.
They're really beatiful fish, but I've got to ask, is your mate certain it won't touch his shrimps? He's a braver man than I if he is. :)
Jared
Thanks Jared for your feedback. Yes it is a worrying about the shrimps. It was funny when we put it in yesterday as all of a sudden all the shrimps came out of hiding and walking on top of the rocks and glass. But he is aware that this could happen. Did a lot of researching and if fed well they can leave them alone but not taking any chance. Also they only need to be fed 2 or 3 time a week and sometime they go without food for 2 weeks. So not worrying about that. This one is very lively but still worry if any shrimps even fish go missing. Or carpet surfing as they are suppose to be great artist escapee. So have to think about covering the top of the tank as pete has mention they do jump out. So fingers cross it ok.

lovely looking snowflake....they scare the bejuzus out of me tho for some reason!
Now that the moray eel has been in the tank for over a month, I can safely say it is very reef safe with all the shrimps etc. Here a few pics of the shrimps walking cleaning around it mouth etc without any fear of being eaten.

aw bless it. I love those photos, it looks like its laughing.
I have really got to stop doing that anthromorph thing. It's so childish!!
I think because it well fed every 2nd day. It get about 6-7 mussells and swallow them whole or lance fish which is why it does'nt bother anybody in the tank even my hand when I have to move things around or clean the glass. Lovely eel.
One day it will eat you Tony :D Will be like Jonah and the whale only Tony and the Eel
