I would love to do a job working with fish and our oceans, maybe something like a marine biologist, working in a public aquarium or something along those lines.
what kind of courses are there available at colleges to do?
Hey Ryan :D
I'm by no means an expert on this but colleges don't all tend to offer the same courses, so what's available near me might be completely different to your local college, making it difficult for anyone to say exactly what to choose. Obviously (unless you're loaded) living away from home while you attend college isn't really an option so maybe you'd be best looking at a subject such as science (particularly biology) with of view of using that to either apply for a job immediately after college, or take it forward to uni which is where you could specialise in a specific field.
Speaking to either a careers advisor at your school or even Connexions would be a good idea and they'll know what options are available to you in S-o-T :D
Good luck with choosing which subjects to take, I'm sure you'll manage to get a job you love :D

As lamb said speak to a careers advisor ar conexxions. Ive actually had a look myself about careers in marine biology.
Becuase colleges arent a place to find the exact course youll have to break down the subject. Start taking real concern in your biology and chemistry classes and maybe choose it as an A2 level in college.
There are Universities in the country that offer courses like zoology, animal behaviour and study of ornamental fish.
If you are really serious, start going round LFS and get to know the staff, tell them of your tank and experiences. Once you turn 16 you can get a part time job and further your knowlegde on the job, plus you wil have the beginnings of a decent CV.
I currently am on the list of my LFS and the manager wants me but cant lay off anyone and due to the current climate cannot take on anothe member of staff.
Seeing as this is an appropiate thread, (trying not to jinx it) I am currently waiting for a return phone call from (i know not the best place but i can and will turn it around) the manager of Pets at Home brentford branch to being the Marine section Aquarist.
I luckily know a guy who help set up the system orginally and told me they really do seek anyone with marine experience as they are hard to come by.
Fingers crossed
Phil
I got asked about working in my pets at home (Macclesfield) on the marine section (they haven't done it yet !) I asked about the pay and it wasn't great. This chap then butted in and said he was already taking the course, I asked him a few simple questions r.e the systems and his answers were truly scary. I told him if he was as far into the course as he said he was then I was seriously worried about the fish they would be keeping. At this point he got his :asshole: out and stormed off
